Even the most successful professionals face uncertainty about what’s next. Whether you’re considering taking a step up, moving laterally, or exploring something new, the path to career clarity starts with self-reflection—and a practical plan. As a corporate lawyer and executive coach who has navigated roles across global firms, I’ll show you how to break inertia and progress with confidence.

Action steps for career clarity (+ bonus tips!):

·       Three-column audit:

Write three columns:

o   Energises me

o   Drains me

o   Want more of

Review monthly. You’ll notice emerging patterns and spot opportunities to pivot your current role or plan your next one.

·       Network with purpose:

Approach one new professional each month (or quarter if that's too difficult) for an informal LinkedIn conversation or coffee. Your objective: curiosity, not transactional. Ask about their path and be human—the best insights come from real stories.

·       Invest one hour monthly in you:

Protect this time in your diary every month—explore new articles, attend a short webinar or simply reflect on skills and aspirations for the next quarter. You'll find that doing something new, different or relaxing without the usual distractions unlocks creative and innovative thought which you can use to guide your next steps.

·       Visualise success:

Set a calendar reminder named after your stretch goal (“Partner by 2027!”) and try to schedule one small action that will help you reach it (no action is too small). It will keep you anchored and accountable as you progress.

Bonus content:

·       Skill swap: Offer to exchange a skill or knowledge with a peer—mutual development is efficient and relationship-building. You'll make some friends along the way too.

·       Personal board of advisors: It sounds fancy, but it's not. Create your own mini-council: three trusted professionals (inside or outside your sector) for periodic career check-ins. They will be your sounding bound. Allow yourself to be vulnerable with them. You'll be surprised how many of your own thoughts and concerns resonate with them and how willing they will be to support you.

·       Document your wins: Keep a private “achievement log.” You’ll be ready when promotion or new opportunities arise. It will also be an invaluable reference tool when you're not feeling your best and need a little mental boost.

You don’t need all the answers to move forward—you just need the right questions, support, and momentum.

If that’s what you’re looking for, let’s plot your next chapter together.
